The world of quality management continues to evolve, and keeping up with the latest developments is essential for organizations and quality professionals.

ISO 9000:2026 – Quality management  Fundamentals and vocabulary has been published, replacing the previous ISO 9000:2015 edition. The new edition provides an updated foundation for understanding quality management concepts and terminology and is designed to align with current quality management approaches and the revised ISO 9001 framework.

What has changed in ISO 9001:2026?

The latest edition introduces a number of updates to help improve clarity and consistency across the ISO 9000 family, including:

  • Updated terminology and definitions to reflect developments in quality management.
  • Revised quality management fundamentals and principles with changes to their structure and presentation.
  • New quality management concepts reflecting evolving organizational, technological, and business environments.
  • Updated relationship diagrams to provide greater clarity on how key quality management terms relate to one another.

The updated standard provides organizations, auditors, and quality professionals with a more current and harmonized reference for understanding quality management concepts and terminology.

What does this mean for organizations?

For organizations working with ISO standards, understanding the changes in ISO 9001:2026 can help support a common understanding of quality management terminology and concepts.

It is also important to remember that ISO 9000 provides the fundamentals and vocabulary for quality management, while ISO 9001 specifies the requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS) and is the standard against which certification can be obtained.
